The aim of our group is to conserve, promote and impart everything connected to our rich historical heritage which is slowly being eroded.

How it all began.

The Walton History Group was set up in 1985 by people who had an interest and a love of an area that they were either born in or lived in. This is how our  late President Joan Callister remembers it:

"The Walton History Group has been one of my main interests ever since 1985. Reflecting on how it all began I thought it might be of interest to write it down. It was in 1983 that the Workers Educational Association started weekly courses on local history and if my memory serves me right we paid 50p per class. At the culmination of the course we were able to publish a book of articles written by the students on places and things of local interest (I chose Rice Lane). The book (now out of print) was funded by the W.E.A. and distributed by them. A group of us locals then decided to form the Walton History Group and now I am the last remaining founder member. Over the intervening years I'm proud to say we have published a yearly calendar plus six books with number seven now on sale . We live in such a historically rich area that we still have lots to write about".
