This is the Greengrocer shop of W. Bedford on Walton Road and next door is Hobson's Employment Agency. Miss Annie S Hobson ran the Agency recruiting domestic servants. In the foreground is the Netley Pub no longer there it was replaced by Domino Pizza's which has now also closed
The Plough Inn was built in 1894 to replace the Hostelry that had been on the site since the time of Henry VIII. It is now a day nursery.
Walton Goal was built between 1848 -1855 the land was bought by Liverpool Corporation for £228 per acre in 1847. The building was designed by John Grey Weightman, it was to hold 1000 prisoners. It housed both Male and female prisoners till 1933. The prison saw a total of 60 men and 2 women hung there the first being Elizabeth Berry on the 14th March 1887 for poisoning her 11 year old daughter for £10 family life insurance.
